Dates for your Diary
2nd February: Candlemas Day - Candles blessed at 6:30pm Mass in Piltown. Please bring along your own candle or alternatively candles are available at the Church and a donation towards cost can be made.
3rd February: Feast of St. Blaise - Blessing of the throats will take place after all masses on Sunday in Templeorum (9am), Owning (10am) & Piltown (11am).
The tradition of the blessing of the throats on the feast day of St Blaise is to protect those with throat troubles. It apparently comes from a legend that a boy was brought to him who had a fishbone stuck in his throat. The boy was about to die when Saint Blaise healed him. The Saint is often depicted holding two crossed candles in his hand.  Using two crossed and unlighted candles, the Priest touches the throat of each person, saying: Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from all ailments of the throat and from every other evil; + in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Parents arranging for their children’s baptism are required to call personally to the Parish Office and will need to bring the baby’s Birth Certificate with them.  This is required under Date Protection regulations.

Hospital Visits
If any parishioners have family members in hospital who would like to be visited by the Priests of the Parish, please give details to the Parish office on 051-643112.
