The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a piece of European Union legislation that aims at ensuring the protection of individuals in relation to the processing of personal data and took effect on May 25th 2018.  In order to comply with this legislation, parishes (the Data Holder) will have to be more careful when requested for information from the Parish Registers, for instance very often by people from outside the parish creating a family tree.  Requests by parishioners for their own Baptismal, Confirmation or Marriage certificates is not an issue as long as their identity is known or confirmed to the “Data Holder”.
